Now what is a 'Yankee Doodle' ?
In American English, the word's archaic meaning is related to a native or inhabitant of the United States, originally indicating a slightly ridiculous meaning. As Yankee Doodles are often depicted while blowing the pipe or beating the drums, one could imagine a relation between 'doodle' and some kind of music. In fact, the 'Yankee Doodle' is, as well, a famous patriotic song popular with the Americans in their Revolutionary War. Its chorus goes like that:

" Yankee doodle, keep it up
Yankee doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy. "

The similar sounding German word 'Dödel' [ˈdøːdl̩] or 'Dodel' is being used to describe some 'fool' or 'idiot' and can be replaced by different German synonyms like 'Dummkopf' or 'Dämlack'. In addition, the German language knows the sound-mimicking word of 'dudeln' or 'Dudelei' which can be related to the making of a low-quality music or to getting on another people's nerves with the same unchangeable stances. In folk music of the European Alp mountain region, 'holleri, du dödel du' is known as part of a 'yodler' of the native people there.

The battle of Aleppo began on the morning of November 27, 2024, in the western countryside of Aleppo with a widespread surprise attack on the positions of Assad's forces, breaking the long-standing silence. 3 Islamist factions participated: Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham – Jaish al-Izza – Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement (هيئة تحرير الشام – جيش العزة – حركة أحرار الشام الإسلامية). Bashar al-Assad's forces were overwhelmed and fled, leaving back even their tanks. The battle is the first of its kind in Syria since 2020, after Russia, Turkey and Iran agreed on de-escalation zones, such cementing their influence in 2019.

The timing of the operations may be related to the current involvement of Iran and its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah in a military conflict with Israel, while Russia is currently waging war with Ukraine which enjoys material support from its Western allies in Europe and the USA.

On the other hand, Turkey is increasingly suspected to support Syria's Assad regime in regaining control of northern Syria. This would most probably neutralize militant Kurdish tribes in Syria and would thereby help Turkey to get along with its own Kurdish population.
